About the book:

Beartown in a hockey town. The citizens of Beartown breath and eat hockey. When their best player is accused of rape the town is upside down. A hockey player couldn’t rape a girl. Could he?

My Thoughts:

I really like the book. I really felt the hockey elements of the book was true to the game of hockey. I also felt the way the rape and after mass was also spot on. The only issues I had was at some points it was slow going.

I gave this book 3 stars out of 5 stars.

Book Review: The Time Keepers By Jenn Bregman

I was sent this book for a honest review.

33950738

About the book(Goodreads):

A fast-paced thriller, The TimeKeepers plunges headlong into the depraved underbelly of Big Law and big money where greed is king, murder is incidental, and winning is the only thing that matters.

Attorney Sarah Brockman is young, idealistic, and naïve. Having left Big Law in search of work that would make a difference, she finds herself barely scraping by running her own personal injury law firm working for clients who can’t pay and pursuing causes she can’t win. Then a random horrific car crash shatters everything. Now she’s staring into the darkest shadows of the very system she’s dedicated her life to upholding, filled with corrupt judges, dirty cops and attorneys, offshore banking, massive fraud, and twists and turns through the highways and byways of Southern California, Mexico and the Cook Islands.

Facing off against a cunning and deranged adversary, Sarah is aided by a sharp-witted socialite, a felon and occasional crackhead, and a shameless Mexican raconteur. All while kindling a tender romance with Sam, her boyishly handsome new love, who has been following the same trail but from the other end – and the wrong side of the law.

Sarah feels invisible strings pulling her ever closer to the core of the conspiracy. But if she’s just a pawn in someone else’s game, are the strings being pulled for good or for bad? Or, even, both? And will she be on the side that wins?

My Thoughts:

What I loved about the book:

  • A main female character. I found a female lawyer was refreshing and a rare thing in books.
  • The book cover is awesome. I really love the skyline being over lapped with a analog clock. Really nice touch.
  • The case in the book is really interesting. No I am not going to spoil it for you.

What I didn’t like:

  • I felt the book was 60% romance and only 40% thriller. The book lost my undivided attention after chapter 13.
  • I feel the relationship between Sarah and Sam felted rushed and not real. It really felt like something the author shoved in there to eat up pages.

My opinion:

I do give Jenn Bregman  props for taking a chance on this book and see her writing style growing as a writer. This book to be honest was not for me. I would have love if the book kept the romance at 30% to 20% of the book. It would have made the book flow so much better.

However I am glad to had a chance to read a arc of this book.

I give this book 1 out of 5 stars. This book really was not for me.

I have decide to do my book reading as a weekly wrap up.  I read 5 books last weeks. I will start with the lowest rating and worked my way up. So lets get started.

The Hidden Oracle By Rick Riordan

About the book:

Apollo ticks off Zeus again and from there it becomes a horrible book.

My thoughts:

It was a really badly written book. I dislike Apollo from the beginning and don’t think he should get a book series.

About the book:

Theo ‘s best friend was kidnapped but not kidnapped by anyone. She has to deal with her eating disorder  and the fact that her ex boyfriend kidnapped her best friend.

My thoughts:

This book would have been much better if it was a adult book. I also like to give a warning that this book has to deal with eating disorders and rape.

About the book:

A book filled with short stories about Men and Women lives.

My thoughts:

A lot of the stories where bland to say the least. My fave. was Drive My Car.  Which was about a woman driver driving a actor to and from work.

About the Book:

It tells the story of working on the Carol Burnett show and about how it got started, stories about the famous people who were guest and much more.

My thoughts:

I listen to this on audio and it was read by Carol Burnett herself. I felt she add a bit of herself that really made the book seem like you being right there with her.  I am going to be listening to her other books on Audio.

Book Review: The Bone Witch By Rin Chupeco

Hello Everyone and New Followers,

30095464

About The Book:

Tea has powers not just any powers but the magic that wakes the dead and brings them back to well not life but close to it.  After raising her brother Fox from the dead she falls ill and is taken under the wing of a bone witch.

Also the book also follows her  need for revenge a few years later.

My thoughts:

I don’t think I can wait a year for the next book. I need it now. I really like that the young witch went through some thing like memories of a geisha to pay back what they owe for clothes and magic lessons.   I love Tea and her brother Fox. He is my fave. zombie book character. So sorry R. It had a very Japanese and Mexico theme to it.

The only thing I didn’t like was the instant love with a prince. That was the only disappointing thing about the book.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Samantha Talks:The Problem With Indie Book Authors

Hello Everyone,

Today I know I was going to post a book review and a weekly book reading wrap up but that can wait till tomorrow.

Today I want to talk about Indie Authors but first I am going to post a pic of Lush bye bye products that are leaving us.

18519840_10213365913321935_8373625367743042930_n

So on with the blog post. I buy all my ebooks on kobo since I live in Canada and own a kobo ereader and have for years.

I finish the second book of this unnamed indie author and emailed them I can’t find books 3 and 4 in the series which I was going to buy. I get a message back sorry but I don’t make enough money on kobo. You can buy the book on amazon.ca. I thought okay that is reasonable but later that day I see the book was picked up as a movie coming out in 2 years and they are on the best sellers list.

Which left a very sour taste in my mouth thinking sure you don’t make enough money. Which made me a little disappointed in how the world and book publishing became money greedy.

Here are three books series that I want to finish but was taken off kobo due to not making enough money there. Yet their first book is still for sale on Kobo.

The Black Mage Series By Rachel E. Carter

Isa Maxwell Series By Ana Spoke

The Arc Series By Alexandra Moody

Yes I know this post seems like a bitter Betty post but when you buys so far in the series. You are hoping the last book will stay on the site you bought the previous books more then a week of publishing.

My thoughts:

I love this book so much that I am sure when she starts school I am going to read it again. I am for sure going to watch the tv show.

I can’t say too much cause I am afraid I would ruin the book. Just say I love all three of the main characters.

I also didn’t have problems with this book.

I give it 5 stars out of 5 stars and the award of best book I have read this year.

My thoughts:

Book Review: Peony By Pearl S. Buck

18875385

About the book:

Peony is a bondmaid which means she was a bought servant.  She loves the family especially the only son of the family. She will do anything for him even sacrificing her heart just to see him happy in life.

My thoughts:

I found the unselfishness of Peony refreshing. She went out of her way for the family and never once thinking only of herself. You don’t see many people like that these days in books. I found some of the story line a bit slow. However I will continue with reading more books by Pearl S. Buck.

I gave this book 3 stars out of 5 stars

Book Review:A Court Of Thorns And Roses By Sarah J. Maas

16096824

About the book:

It’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling with Beauty being a hunter and the beast being a high Fae.

I also should warn that this book has sex scenes in it. I don’t recommend the book to anyone 16 years or younger.

My Thoughts:

I actually love the book. I felt that is was one of the better series by Sarah J. Maas. Since we all know how much I hate and dislike the throne of glass series.

I found myself actually liking the sisters even though they had been evil. I also found the book was really well written and made me feel like I experienced being there. It did have some slow parts but those quickly picked up paced.

If you are a fan of Disney Beauty and the beast this book is not for you. If you are a fan of the classic story of beauty and the beast then this book is for you.

I am looking forward to reading the second book in this series when I am on vacation.

I give this book 4 stars out of 5 stars.
